Squirrels are shy by their nature. If you take the time, months, offer it food, peanuts or something you can toss to it. It may trust you enough to approach. It will probably try to scare you off by jumping at you and possibly biting you. If you don't respond by attacking it in return, it may choose to accept you into it's group. I had a pet squirrel for years that I raised from a pup and she was great fun. I was just another squirrel to her and it wasn't a problem. If you prove you are not a threat and can provide tasty treats, it may come to you.
