• As a mother your children should come first as far as safety from an abusive mate even though you are an illegal alien. There are Abused Women's Shelters in your area. Phone your telephone operator for the phone number. Once you have the number then call a counselor and discuss your problem. Abused Women's Shelters are there to protect women and their children. An appointment will be set up and they are well aware that it may be difficult for you to get away from your mate. Choose a time when your mate is at work and pack your bags and take the children to the Abused Women's Shelter. They will have someone else play with your children while a counselor asks you questions. Then they will eventually send you to a Transition House (no one, but the counselor knows where you are. You and your children will be taken care of. The Transition House will expect you to attend programs so you can better understand you are a victim of abuse and what your rights are and that of your children. If a court case comes up a legal counselor will accompany you to the court hearing (your children will not be included.) Eventually, once you take the programs they give you (tools to learn so you never get into another abusive relationship again); you will be helped to relocate (somewhere else for you and your children to live) and help you find a job. Even though you are an illegal alien their lawyers may find a way around your situation. The Abused Women's Shelters are a haven to protect those women who are subjected to verbal and physical abuse. For the sake of your children risk taking yourself and your children to a Woman's Abuse Center. Be very careful and delete anything on your computer that suggests you planning to leave your abusive mate as they may check out what you are doing on the internet. Delete all!
