its recalled u can take it the dealer and they will do it You remove the bezel surrounding the instrument cluster panel, should be only 2 small screws. Once you do that you can squeeze your hand in and get it free.
You're going to have to change the hazard light button on the dash
On my 2000 Grand AM SE the switch is in the dash above the radio (behind the hazard indicator button). You can remove the plate covering this part of the dash by prying around the edges.

It's located under your hazard light button. Your hazard light button sits on top of the unit. So if you have a persiting problem or an intermitant problem it's gonna be that unit. You can take off the portion of you dash that contains your vents, hazard light button and light dimmer poteniometer simply my just carefull prying it out srom its clips, be carefull when pulling it out as not to brake any of the plastic.
