iPhoto is exact same application like all other. You can find iPhoto in your/global Applications folder and simple just drag it to your dock.
You can drag pictures straight out of the browser window onto the iPhoto icon in the dock to add the picture to your library.
If the image is already on the Mac you can drag it into the iPhoto icon in the Dock and it will be added to the iPhoto library. You can select Import To Library from iPhoto's File menu. Or select any Devices (cameras, phones etc.) that are connected to iPhoto and are shown in the left hand panel, then select the pictures you want to add and click the Import button.
Well if it was a application that was open then you have to close it first and then drag it off
Just insert the scandisk into a USB port. It will appear on the screen as an icon. Double click the icon to open the drive. Drag and drop the photos to the iPhoto icon in your dock. They will be copied to iPhoto.
