If you do not have a key to the trunk of a 1991 Mazda Miata, there is a way to get into it. You would (first) have to take off the back license plate. The lock sticks out about 2-3 inches. You would then have use a drill (electric) to unscrew 2 screws. This would take off the lock and let you into the trunk.
actually happen to me, battery dead, trunk key doesnt work, rusty tumblers frozen. not enough battery juice to use trunk button in console. sooo, get a cigarette lighter style plug in, replace its fuse with higher amp one, strip the ends, determine correct polarity, hook up battery charger to correct polarity, plug into cig lighter, turn on ignition switch. juice will flow and pop the trunk lid button, your in! pull lighter plug. now charge battery and put post it note on steering wheel "turn off park lights"...

On a 1991 Miata, the battery is in the trunk. It is probably the same on the 1990.
There is no Distributor cap or rotor in a 91 Mazda Miata. All years of the Miata use electronic computer controlled ignition systems.
Because the Miata battery is enclosed and in the trunk, and because the trunk has large air tunnels directly into the cabin, a sealed battery is necessary. The most common Miata battery replacements are not too expensive, and have small tube connections that allow the gasses to be vented outside of the car. Visit WestCoBattery.com for online ordering, they are the most trusted source for Miata-sized batteries.

Yes, in the steering wheel. Later models will have passenger-side airbags.
Yes. Bear in mind that 1999-2000 leather seats are considered the worst seats amongst Miata owners due to poor back support.
