Charge by connecting positive clip of charger set to low amperage to avoid blowing fuse in circuit to the large positive wire that is on the alternator under round rubber bubble cover that can easily be pulled off. Getting to this is possible for a person very experienced with mechanical works on car even without lifting the vehichle, but may be a challenge for a less experienced person as you have to work by feel unless you lift the vehichle to get better view. Good luck. :)

It is very easy to change the battery in a 2004 Ford Escape. You will need to remove the bar that is covering the battery first. Then you will just need to take the battery terminals off the battery and then remove the old battery. Put the new battery in and put the terminals back on in the correct order. Then put the bar back over the battery and it is ready to go.
The hood should still open when the battery is dead
Poor cable connections to the battery , or dead battery
