Gmail, a free email service provided by Google, allows users to archive emails. To sign up, simply go to the Google homepage, and click the mail link in the top toolbar.
There is a notification dropdown (pulling it down from the status bar) where you can see the latest Gmail messages without having to open Gmail separately. In the dropdown, you can read the body of the message, and can either reply, archive, or clear it off the dropdown.
Send and Archive button might be enabled so while sending mail, it disappears from inbox after forwarding it. To deactivate it, follow below steps: 1. Open Gmail. 2. Click on Settings and go to General tab. 3. Under Send and Archive, check if Show Send & Archive button in reply is selected. 4. If yes, then deselect it and select Hide Send & Archive button in reply. 5. Click on Save changes. 6. Forward another mail and check if mail is present in the inbox. GuruAid.com

Clicking Gmail's "Archive" button means that -- if no Label was applied -- the selected email is no longer visible from the Inbox and is only viewable in the "All Mail" view. If you first apply a Label to a message and then click the "Archive" button, the message will be visible in the applied Label view as well as the "All Mail" view. This is a way to keep your Inbox uncluttered without actually deleting the emails.
You can archive your emails in many ways. If you use Google's Gmail service, you can click the archive option when an email is selected in order to archive it. Alternatively, you can use a third party archiving service such as Mailstore or GFI.
