Believe it or not many actors suffered from social anxiety, joined an acting group (even in college) and for some reason did extremely well. Taking Public Speaking Courses helps (I did because I use to be so shy, but have no problem speaking in public now.) Joining different groups you may be interested in even if it's sports of some sort to volunteering. Start out by taking small steps and volunteer somewhere or take up a sport that is more pleasurable and doesn't add to your anxiety and then when you have conquered that you can take Public Speaking if you wish. Good luck Marcy

You work on your confidence, build your self esteem with positive thoughts about yourself, practice what you wish to say and do in social situations so it is less stressful when you are in them, and you go out and practice them for real around others. The more time you slowly make yourself step out and be around others, the easier it will become.

You take it one step at a time. Challenge yourself day by day and step out of your comfort zone. Try to make new friends (if you're in school) and join in new conversations with new people. This is pretty hard to do in the beginning so just. Ease yourself into doing something like this and engaging in new things that pushes your anxiety just a little. It's going to be hard but it will get better eventually

Any phobia is best dealt with small increments of exposure. For a social phobia, try spending five minutes in a social setting. Bring a friend with you who knows what you're going through, so that they may help you. Gradually build up your exposure, and celebrate the triumphs you make. Realize that there may be some setbacks from time to time, and don't beat yourself up over them. Make sure to treat yourself gently while working through your phobia.
