A "hot tub rash" could be one of several things, however the most common reason is that people do not shower off after the tub and consequently suffer rashes due to bacteria and/or parasites that develop in the water. This happens when there is a.) not enough chlorine in the tub b.) the tub water was not properly conditioned and c.) when the water has sat stagnant for too long and was not cleaned properly or often enough. When the rash is caused by a parasitic or bacteriological presence, it is recommended that you call your doctor for a cream designed for this purpose. I am not a doctor so I cannot legally recommend any specific medication for your symptoms. There are numerous creams that are available for this, and you may ask your pharmacist or call your local drug store for proper legal/medical advice. If you have trouble contacting a medical professional, or you (as a lot of people are faced with today) simply cannot afford medical care, you can try the method of soaking in your bathtub with (don't laugh...it works) about two cups of oatmeal. The oatmeal helps dry out the bumps, and relieves itching. **Note** If you soak in oatmeal in your tub be sure to use a proper straining device/screen when emptying the water so you do not clog your drain pipes!The ultimate cure is prevention, so when you soak in a tub, swim in a pool (or even the ocean, lake or river) be sure to shower off as soon as you can to prevent any problems down the road.
