Can you Swim with a rash?

Most lifeguards will tell you no, because the rash could be communicable, unless you know for sure it is because of an allergy, or maybe from the chlorine in the pool itself. Do not swim if the rash is causing any blisters or open wounds.

How do you get rid of butt rash?

Zinc Oxide cream and/or anti-fungal topical medication, look in the baby aisle at the store. If it is a minor rash, you can try medicated powders also found in the baby aisle. Keep the area clean, let air get to it and, very important: keep it dry. If it is on a baby's butt, try to keep the diaper off as much as possible to let the rash be exposed to air.

Can Straterra cause a rash?

My son has been off Straterra for 1 week. His rash is subsiding ever so slowly. The spots that he scratched are infected, but I am putting a cream(antibiotic) on them. I may try epsom salt compresses or put him in a pool or hot tub and let the chlorine/bromine help to dry them up. No more Straterra for him. He is a happier kid now and he eats and sleeps better! IMHO the Straterra was a major factor with the rash, the upset stomach, and the lack of sleep. Good Luck!

Any rash brought on by ANY medications can be a sign of Stephens Johnson syndrome. It is when your body reacts to foreign chemicals and your body basically burns itself up. This is a LIFE THREATENING disease. Most doctors NEVER watch for this or think about it. Anytime you start a new medication, especially "psych" meds you have to watch for symptoms of a rash. If you develop any symptoms DISCONTINUE THE MEDICATION IMMEDIATELY! Most of the time fatalities occur because doctors don't link the rashes with the medications, meanwhile you are feeding the fire. I was alerted to this when I started taking Lamictal. My psych kept asking me to tell him if any signs of a rash developed, to stop the medication and call him immediately. He didn't tell me why, but an internet search revealed the reason. Go to Stephens Johnson Syndrome and check it out. Don't mess around. There are pictures there and people who get this look like they have been dropped in a deep fryer. It is scary!

Thank you so much for informing us here about Stevens Johnson and its website. I have never heard of it in my 43 years of living and I research EVERY drug I am prescribed by a doctor very thoroughly - (one would think I would have run across such important information about possible drug reaction/allergy.) This should be commonly given out by doctors - not to scare but to educate! Thanks again.

After being on Straterra for 3 days I develeoped a minor rash that can best be described as a red dry rash that burned when I touched it (like poison ivy). I kept an eye on it and it did get worse before it got better starting on my face and working down to my legs but by the 5th day of Straterra the rash was completely gone. I've had such positive results from Straterra with the ADHD didn't want to stop and I'm so glad I didn't. The rash was a very fast and minor side effect and it went away before I could even call my doctor to question it. I've been on it almost 2 weeks now and there is no sign of a rash.

I am so glad that I found this site in searching for an answer to wether or not Strattera can cause a rash of any sorts. My 14 years old son just switched from Concerta to Strattera two weeks ago and he has developed this funny looking rash. It started between his fingers and moved to his face, legs, and eye. It looks red with tiny little bumps the size of a pin head. Does this sound familiar to anyone? He said that it itches and it bothers him. Help.

i am on my 8th day of strattera.i started getting a rash on my face & neck yesterday. i hope it goes away.

My son was on Straterra for almost 2 months with no problems. The Dr. increased his meds. a little to help out more. After they were increaced he started breaking out in a rash. We stopped the meds. for a week. After the rash cleared up we started him back on the meds. He started with the rash all over again. Now he is off Straterra and on Ritalin. He is breaking out with it too afer a weeks time. I'm lost on what to do. Is he going to be like this with all these meds? He really needs something. Anyone have any ideas?

I was taking 40mg twice a day and increased to 60mg twice a day. That's when I noticed that my skin was extra-sensitive. After swimming in chlorine I would break out in a rash all over. Went back to 40mg...no problem!!

Strattera has been so effective in helping my A.D.D. that at age 52 it was like being found stranded on confusion island after 45 years. You know what I'm talking about.I have been using Strattera for about 30 days. After the first two weeks of 40 mgs a day my doctor increased it to 80 mgs. The rash started about a week ago.Mostly my torso and legs.I stopped the Strattera a couple of days ago and I'm hoping the rash goes away soon, then I can try something else. I hope I find something as effective without the side effects if that is what this is.Frank

How do you get rid of itchy rash after pregnancy?

Hydrocortisone GEL, not cream or ointment will alleviate the itching and the pain, but the way to cure it is by taking prednisone. My wife has had her rash for three weeks and starting taking the prednisone last night. The swelling is gone and so are the bumps. She is not itching and there is only a little redness. She started taking it at 9pm last night and I am typing this at 8am the next morning. This is great! She is getting back to her normal jolly and happy self..........So the prednisone is great for us dad's too!!! :-)

Day three...my wife is back in her sexy clothes and out of the robe that she has been wearing for three weeks. She is off with mom shopping.

One week later........rash is completely gone.

The price of the prednisone which was prescribed after she called her doctor was 4 dollars.

What contraindications are there for eczema?

I know of the perfect remedy for your situation. It's an organic and natural oil that has been used by the women in Morocco and Israel for years. It's called Argan oil, and it works wonders. It absorbs into the skin very fast, faster than most creams and lotions. It only grows in Morocco for some reason, and it has been used by the Berber women their for centuries. It diminishes fine lines and wrinkles, rejuvenates the skin, hair, and nails. It is also very beneficial in the treatment of eczema, psoriasis, stretch marks, and even acne believe it or not. My mother has been using it for years and she looks radiant. It is the all around most beneficial and rarest organic skin care product in the world. For some reason it has been pretty much unknown until lately. It has been used by models, spas and salon, and people with skin ailments for the last couple years in Europe though. I contacted one website who has certified and deodorized Argan oil (the natural odor is very strong) , and had the most info on all the different application for Argan oil. You can sign up for a discount and future discounts, and they start selling in two weeks.

Why does scarlet fever rash last so long?

Because the scarlet fever releases exotoxins into your body... The rash is your body's allergic reaction to those exotoxins. And it usual takes six to nine days for your body to remove the exotoxins so that is why the rash stays for so long... hope this helps

If you find small bumps around your genital area is it a sign you have an STD or could it be an allergic reaction to something?

Small Bumps in Genital AreaI am assuming that you do not have any other signs/symptoms. It is not unusual to develop a rash or "bumps" in the genital area. The important questions are, are they painful? Is there any itching or bleeding? Do they seem to be spreading? If none of this applies, it is doubtful that you have an STD. What concerns me is that you are worried that you might. Please take care of yourself and (sorry to sound preachy) always, always practice safe sex.

Here is more information from Wiki s contributors:

  • Don't be too alarmed. In some cases it could be mild acne, which, while it isn't good, is not an STD. Try to pop one like a pimple and see what happens. If it is acne, then use a gentle acne wash.
  • Yes, this could be a sign that you have an STD. There is no way to diagnose you over the internet, without having a physician perform a thorough medical history and physical examination -- despite what some may say -- you will not know for sure if you have an STD, unless you see your physician.

As you already well know, STDs can be highly transmissible and contagious. If you are sexually active and have intimate contact with another person's bodily fluids and mucous membranes, (which includes genital to genital, genital to mouth, hand to genital, and even mouth to mouth, especially if you have any cuts in your mouth or bleeding gums), you should ALWAYS protect yourself with a barrier form of contraception (condoms, dental dams, female condoms).

If you have any suspicious bumps in your genital or anal area, you really owe it to yourself and your partner to tell your partner about the bumps. And then if you decide to pursue intimate relations, USE CONDOMS (or a barrier method listed above)!!

Remember herpes is a disease that is not currently curable. There are medications to reduce the frequency of outbreaks, but they do not eliminate the herpes virus from your body. In females, there are additional things to be aware of, if you have genital herpes, particularly if you become pregnant. These are things you should discuss with your doctor!!

Other STDs out there, are easily treatable or curable -- that is also why you should see your doctor. If you can't afford to make and appointment to see a private physician, there are reduced-fee and free health clinics that can help you in any city. Check your local phone listings for info on free clinics (such as Planned Parenthood) in your area. Note Planned Parenthood can provide you with birth control, STD testing, pregnancy testing and prenatal care, and STD treatment. AND know that all physicians follow a strict code of ethics which ensures patient confidentiality and privacy.

Again, you can't know what STD you have, without having a physician examine you and review your medical history. If you cannot afford a doctor's visit, check your local phone book for listings on free clinics and Planned Parenthood clinics.

(FYI, I am a true physician and hope that this information helps. Again, you should always check with your own doctor because each individual's situation and medical problems and history are unique. It is unwise and oftentimes unsafe to take advice from a physician who has not examined you and taken a full medical history from you. In taking medical advice over the internet, you are taking a risk that could affect your health and life. Have a great day, and talk with your own doctor about your situation. )

  • It could be Fordyce spots or pearly penile papules, which are not infectious, sexually transmitted and present form childhood. They are a normal anatomical variant. Use google images to look for a picture. If you have any chance of having been exposed to a sexually transmitted infection or the spots are new you should visit a doctor. FYI I am a family doctor
  • The first answer is somewhat misleading - lesions can be painless and still be the symptom of an STD. In fact syphilis usually presents in the primary (first) stage with a painless lesion (called a chancre).

Any suspicious lesion should be examined by a doctor or the Health Department if you have been sexually active whether or not you have used condoms. The reason for this is that condoms do not always cover infectious areas and only provide protection in areas directly covered by the condom. Diseases such as syphilis and herpes which spread by direct contact can bypass condoms altogether.

What is a rash in the shape of a circle on your skin?

Sounds like it could be ring worm. I'd have it checked by a doctor to know for sure. It could just be an irritation that happens to be in a circle.

AnswerIt is probably a ringworm; however, you should see your doctor and get some medication. AnswerDon't waste your money on a doctor. Just go to your local pharmacy and ask him what he thinks it is and and see if he can give you something over the counter for it. Most Pharmacist know just as much as doctors. AnswerIf the center is clear and it is a ring shape and has bad itching it probably is ringworm. The old and proven remedy is to soak a cottonball in Clorox Bleach. Thoroughly soak the area let dry leave it on a while. This does burn, but 1 time should be enough to smother the worm. AnswerRingworm is not a worm. It is a fungal infection slightly under the skin. Do not use bleach on your body, it's for your clothes or cleaning up disgusting things on floors or counters. Go buy some antifungal over the counter medication. if problem persists, consult your doctor. AnswerAs a retired cosmetologist & instructor, & mother of 2 sets of now adult twins and a 13 yr old as well, I think I might be able to help on the ringworm thing. It is a fungal infection, but from my experience and I have had plenty of it, over the counter medicines don't work, especially if it has already developed the full ring, for every over the counter med you continue to try and every home remedy you try, it will continue to get larger and larger, and as it does, it does damage to the skin tissue, nails (if involved), and especially any hair folicles. The only true treatment I have ever found successful, included antibiotic creams with INTERNAL Prescription Medication/antibiotics at the same time. (Depending on it's severity, and strain, it can in some cases require medications that use poisons in which cases the blood / medication levels of the patient have to be monitored closely. Getting a correct diagnosis and correct treatment is best done through a dermatologist not a regular MD. I have had one of my children end up with minor permanent damage to hair follicles, and hair no longer grows where the infection occurred, thankfully it was an underneath area, don't wait to seek out a doctor to find out for sure the sooner it's treated, the less complicated the treatment needs to be- if it's treated both internally and externally at the same time.

I agree with the above statement except treating it with an antibiotic. Antibiotics are only for bacteria. Since it was stated that ringworm is caused by a fungus, antibiotics may further worsen the problem. However, one fungus is treated by antibiotics, Pneumocystis jiroveci, but that is only seen in immunocompromised people such as AIDS patients. It should be treated internally (terbinafine or itraconazole) and externally (terbinafine 1% cream - Lamisil). Do not suck on a tube of Lamisil for internal treatment. It's not the same thing. Since you need a prescription for the internal medication, you might as well go to the doctor anyway.

Most of the above answers say ringworm, but i had this red patch on the inside of my arm. In fact, I get it every spring. It was nothing. Just some sort of irritation of the skin.

AnswerIf it's in the shape of a circle, not raised, white if your tan and red if your not then it may not be ringworm. I am speaking from my own personal experience, because I've never had ringworm. I went to my dermatologist for this one. But the skin on my chest leading up to my neck is very sensitive and there is a fungus that lives on just about everyone and is normally introduced through family members (the close proximity). I have several perfectly round, sometimes itchy, spots. My doctor gave me a cream that's usually used for such fungal things as say ringworm. It's called 'Oxistat', I am to apply it once a day for three weeks or so and can stop when I see that the spots are gone. However, because my skin is so sensitive in this area they will most likely reappear sometime in the future. Normally from sweat or over exposure to the sun. Anyway, just incase anyone was wondering if it could be anything besides ringworm, here's your answer.

Circle with red circle inside? If so get checked for Lyme disease.

If you have a rash on the inner thigh and it is very itchy irritated and red what can you do?

Given the time of year you posted your question, my guess would be that your inner thigh rash is most likely heat rash.

If you've tried ointments and creams with no success, maybe you should try powder with corn starch or something like Gold Bond powder (I'm pretty sure that's the right name) and see if this helps.

Also try to keep the area dry and sweat free. If you wear shorts, find some that won't bunch or chafe the area and that are long enough that your bare thighs don't rub together when you walk.

More input from s users:

  • Just want to make sure this rash is not something caused by a new medication. If it is, you may not be able to do anything about it. A physician may be able to prescribe something, but if it could be related to a new med, please contact your doctor.
  • If it is a heat rash, you can buy a jar of Stridex pads and clean the area with those. Stridex has salicylate acid which is supposed to help open blocked pores and glands. A heat rash occurs when excessive sweating can cause clogged sweat glands. I tried this, and it really did help it to clear up faster and relieve the itching somewhat. The Gold Bond powder is good for itching also, but it could contribute to the clogged pore/gland situation, and so can ointments. Use creams instead of ointments, if you use anything on it.
  • Balmex works wonderfully to relieve the redness and irritation.
  • Dermaid soft 1% cream" it is amazing. Use 3 times a day.
  • I will suggest you to use Eurex lotion, one of the best solution for almost all sort of itching. Eurax Lotion provides relief of itching and skin irritation caused by: sunburn, dry eczema, itchy dermatitis, allergic rashes, hives, nettle rash, chicken pox, insect bites and stings, heat rashes and personal itching. Treatment of scabies.
  • There are so many reasons for this. Wearing nylons can certainly cause rashes and itchy skin because nylon does not breathe. Wear cotton slacks out and forget the nylons and see if that helps. Perspiring in the inside of the legs can also cause rashes and you can use talcum powder (Gold's Talcum Powder) to help with this. You don't have to be fat to have your thighs rub together so if you are wearing jeans it could even be this. Don't wear your jeans, etc., too tight. Here are some ways you can get rid of this nasty little itch. Run a body temp bath and in a measuring cup pour 1 cup of Epsom Salts, then pour enough boiling water into it to dissolve it. Pour into bath water and lay in it (without bubble bath) for 20 minutes to 1/2 hour. This is also excellent for sunburns. Epsom Salts is not like table salt and is soothing to the body. It helps to draw-out infection, etc. A good lotion to use on your skin is "Aveeno" and many diabetic use it because they can get itchy skin. Winter weather can cause itchy skin as well. Works like a charm. Put it on every night. Please watch that rash and if it doesn't go away after you've tried what I have recommended please see your doctor. Rashes can get messy and you can get an infection.
