The best solution - and not full of chemicals - is Desert Essence Therapeutic Treatment Shampoo - has tea tree oil, blue cypress and eucalyptus - buy it at a health food store. You first use it three consecutive days and then twice a week; my granddaughter used to get lice all of the time, but since we used this, no more problems. Plus, it does not smell too bad. Way more effective than those treatments from the pharmacy.
Make sure you have:
What to do:
Cover your dry hair with olive oil, dawn dish soap ormayonnaiseuntil saturated. Put shower cap on and then wrap your head in a towel. Leave on for about 8 hours. This willsuffocatethe lice and loosen the eggs/nits from the hair shaft. After that wash it out with your favorite shampoo, (to help get the oil ormayonnaiseout of your hair you can also rinse your hair with vinegar) thoroughly dry your hair and then use the lice comb to comb out the lice and nits. You will also need to comb the hair out daily with the lice comb for at least two weeks.
You will also need to vacuum any surfaces that head lice can survive on, such as (but possibly not limited to) stuffed animals, all bedding, couches, love seats and armchairs, dining chairs or computer chairs with cloth backing, the seats in your vehicle as well as the head rests, all of your clothing including jackets, hats, and even gloves (even if they've been washed recently, it's always better safe than sorry), carpets, and cloth curtains if you have children in your house.
Boil all combs, brushes, and any hair clips you have in a pot of hot water to kill anything living on them. Make sure not to share these items with anyone, let anyone sleep over your house during this time period, or wear any of your clothing.
If you do not have the time to saturate your hair for 8 hours (which is understandable), at least do the treatment for two hours, comb your hair out thoroughly afterward with the lice comb, and then redo the treatment, combing, and rewashing and vacuuming of all surfaces several times the same week. It is better to do the treatment, combing and vacuuming all in one day, however, as this guarantees killing all the lice and eggs and ensuring that you aren't going to get them right back again off of a surface in your home.
Yes, this helps because lice/ nits need a warm, sheltered environment that cannot be sustained without hair. Lice/ nits can only live in oxygen/ carbon dioxide - as the lice breathe an air that is close to your scalp - for 24 hours. you still should use med. shampoo
Yes this is the best thing to do if you have tried everything else. I would say use a clipper instead of a razor and use guard #1. This will make a thin carpet of hair on your son's head. Using a razor on your son's head is not advisable as they may be unseen moles which will put your son in pain
To get rid of lice soldiers would hold their shirt or whatever part of their clothes was infected with lice and eggs, to an open flame where the lice would pop like Chinese fire crackers. This would kill both lice and eggs. Sometimes they would have baths or showers out of the trenches giving them time to de-lice and get new clean clothes. This wouldn't keep them away though and would only provide a small amount of time without itching, before they would get lice again.
