How do you get seaman book at Malaysia?

For Local Seafarer

1. Enclose a copy of NRIC
2. Hold a valid Medical Examination Certificate
3. In case lost of Seaman Card / Discharge Book, A copy of the police report needs to be enclosed

Any Malaysian who wish to register, should satisfied one of these requirement:-

1. Have an experience of sea service on board merchant vessel, by possessing a 'Discharge Certificate', guarantee letter from shipping company or other relevant proved, or
2. Have gone through the training programs at Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM), or other relevant institution, or
3. Have an experience of sea service with the Malaysian Royal Navy (who wish to joint the merchant fleet), or
4. Holder of any Certificate of Competency approved by the Marine Department.

For Foreign Seafarer

A person who want to register has to fulfill the following conditions :-

1. While serving on board Malaysian ship or has been offered to serve on board Malaysia ship;
2. Holding a valid Medical Examination Certificate
3. In case of lost of Seaman Card, a copy of the police report needs to be enclosed

The books are in the Norwegian language, and are available at any of Norway's sixteen (16) Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV) offices. The NAV's Maritime Control offices handle most, if not all, matters related to recruitment, labour contract verification, training, and clearance* for maritime and shipping employment.

Additionally, a number of websites offer information on maritime and shipping careers, job availability, effect of the recession on employment potential, trade unions, wage standards and estimates, Norwegian taxes, language requirements, contact to shipowners, shipping companies, crewing agencies, and so on.

*Health certificates and security clearance are required for both domestic and international maritime employment.
