There is a little plastic ring at the end of the shifter, unless it has already fallen off, as they like to do. Pop off the ring and grab the button with a pair of pliers and pull it straight out. It is simply plugged in.
Been a while, but don't you Take the boot off inside to get to the shifter. It either has a locking ring that holds the shifter in or 4 bolts holding the shifter in. In either case, remove it and the shifter pulls out.
Remove the rubber boot by taking out the 4 Philips screws in the pastic base then lift it off. the boot is attached to the plastic. Then pull the next rubber mat up enough to get to the 3 torx screws, These are what holds the shifter in. MAKE SURE THE VEHICAL IS IN NEUTRAL. Remove the screws and lift the shifter out. ford sucks buy a dodge
I'm going to assume you meant a 1997 s10 Blazer. Anywho, the knobs don't come off. You have to take the entire lever off the transmission shifter. There is a jam nut on the bottom of the lever. If you push the boot all the way down you can fit a wrench in. TIGHTEN the bolt to push it furth down on the threads, then twist the lever off, remove the center console, and the boot comes up really easy from there. Hope this helps!
No, the transfer case 'Shifter Sheet' (not seat) is changed by removing the shifter from the inside of the vehicle. I recommend you get a manual and learn how to remove the shifter. Several are available for free download. It has been a while but from memory I can say that the rubber boot inside is pulled up followed bu the shifter rubber dust boot underneath, then you can push down on the retainer that is around the shifter and give it a 1/4 twist CCW to get it off, the shifter should pop out by pulling up on it. As I recall the knob has to be removed to replace the 'Sheet'.
If you have amanual transmission You have to push down on the plastic ring above the shifter boot. after you push down the ring, Now you can unscrew the shifter knob. IF you have a automatic transmission you have to remove the screw on the side of the shifter knob. (Be careful the button on the shifter knob is spring loaded)
First take off the cover that goes around the radio and the shifter. It just pops off if you use a flat head and pry up, there are about 6 clips. Then you unscrew the shift knob, and remove the boot, and then there is the rubber boot. Use a 10mm socket to take the 4 bolts out and remove the rubber boot. There will then be the shifter with another small rubber peice that covers where the shifter enters the tranny. Take it off ( it probably has a zip tie so cut it). Then theres the tricky part. There is a C-ring on the bottom of the shifterpart of the transmission ( follow the shifter down to where it meets the tranny, there will be a bunch of white plastic peices that hold it in. Onto of those is the c-ring) Use snap ring pliers to romove it ( its really stiff) and then pull the shifter out. You can then just pour the tranny fluid in. Make sure you don't use to much or to less. ( check the factory service manual for specs).
The shifter cable has retaining nuts on each end of the cable. Loosen the nuts. Remove the guide retainers. The cable will come off and can be replaced.
