Some cars have an interlock to prevent DVD players being used while the car is being driven if there is a chance that the driver can see the screen. If that is the case, there should be no way to make the player work if the car is in drive.
This safety feature is mandatory in many US states and other countries. It may be illegal to tamper with the interlock and certainly is not recommended.
