To change the gearbox oil, use a jack to lift the car and get underneath it. There is a duct under the gearbox that can be opened using a spanner. This will let the oil flow out. Close the cap again and refill oil from the oil cap which is located in the hood of the car.
You will need to open the hood with the lever and then go to the front. Make sure it is securely opened before looking around.
L/H side of truck under hood near the fire wall there are several plugs on top of the front left tire wheel well. The aft plug (nearest the firewall) will have a Gray wire with a black stripe this is the speed sensor wire.
Unfortunately, the bolts securing either fender are only accessible with the front hood opened. Better to go from underneath at the front (put car on a lift) or through the grille.
I had this problem when my civic was in a front end collision. I opened the hood and pounded out the dents with a rubber mallet, but then the hood wouldn't latch. The hood is curved and by pounding out the dents in the front, i had bent the front of the hood upwards, making it impossible for the latch to fully engage. I solved the problem with a few well placed mallet blows near the middle of the hood, which brought the front end of the hood back into its more natural position. This might not be the optimal solution if you hood isn't already banged up, but it might set you in the right direction. I had this problem when my civic was in a front end collision. The hood is in no way controlled or opened by the battery. A hood does not have an electric release. It's a cable operated system.
There is no release cable operated from inside the car so the hood is only opened from the outside only from the latch located near the middle of the hood just underneath the front of the lip near the top of the grille.
Actually, when you have opened the hood and looking at the engine, it is on the right -front of the engine. It has a solid knob for a top.
Opening the hood on a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am is very easy to do. The hood is opened by pulling on the hood release latch inside the car on the drivers side. After the latch is pulled the hood will release. The hood is then opened by pulling the second release under the hood.
Mine jams sometimes also. Normally, you pull the lever in the drivers compartment, on left down low at knee level. Then the hood partially releases and a small lever protrudes from under the hood in front center. pull on this and the hood can be opened fully. The mechanism under the hood in front center must be sprayed with lubricant every few months or it will jam again.
I had this same problem so I opened the hood and come to find out there was migit materbating under it
open the hood and IT IS ON THE RIGHT SIDE, CLOSE TO THE FIRE WALL, THE BOX IS OPENED BY LIFTING UP ON THE FRONT EDGE
