It's really not as difficult as you think given that the fuel pump is in the tank. I'm actually doing this very repair right now and came in to Google something. You might as well replace the fuel filter while you're at it, because you'll just have to drop the tank again to replace it later on.
*Disconnect negative battery cable
*Raise and safely support passenger side of van
*Use a jack with a piece of wood such as a length of 2x4 to support the fuel tank.
*Remove the bolts that hold the straps of the fuel tank. Only do the passenger side ones.
*Slowly lower the lack until you can access the top of the fuel tank easily. You need about 6-8 inches of clearance minimum
*Your fuel filter is attached to the fuel pump by two hoses. You should see a green, maybe red, plastic fitting at the end of the fuel filter lines. Squeeze together with one hand and release the fuel line with the other hand. Repeat on the other.
*Remove the wiring harness from the fuel pump. Be very careful not to break it as it's a dealer item. *NOTE* if you figure out how to get this darn harness off, please let me know, that's what I came here trying to find out...
*Now, you need a strap wrench of you don't have the proper spanner to remove the ring that holds the pump in. I borrowed a strap wrench from a local farmer. If you're not sure you'll be able to get anything like that, buy a new ring at the dealership before you start. They're only about five bucks. Then you can get it off by any means necessary.
*Once that is off, slide the fuel pump out.
*Then just reverse what you just did.
If you decide to go ahead and replace the filter while you're there (a very wise idea) you'll need a 10mm wrench to remove the bolt that holds it in. Disconnect it paying attention to which lines go where (there are 3, 2 of which go on the fuel pump).
As always, expect to get a little fuel on you, have something under there with you to absorb or catch spilled fuel. Big stack of newspaper, old towels you want a good excuse for getting rid of, etc.. It's also a very good idea to wear eye protection.
