the optical spark sensor is mounted inside the disributer. the water pump must be removed make sure you completely drain coolant from engine and radiator if any spills on dist cap and wires you will have the time of your life getting the car to run on all cylinders any moisture on cap and engine will misfire like crazy keep cap and wires dry. mark wires with ink paintpen (best way)so firing order is not mixed up pull wires from cap,remove dist cap remove rotor unplug dist harness remove distributer mount bolts mark rotor position before remove make sure spline shaft between water pump and dist doesnot drop pull dist out replace timing cover oil seal replace opti sensor put it back in reverse order I would spend 10 bucks and get procedure from alldata.com they let you pay for a one time use get it and understand what you are doing.the job calls for a minimum of a b plus or a rated technician, don't hurt that car if you have doughts let a pro do it you can develop unwanted oil leaks from cam driven water pump or leak oil into the distributor which will damage new opti. also if cap and rotor have 100k change it and use delco parts only
