The most effective way is to answer lots of questions, especially new questions, and make sure that your answers are correct. Everybody gets a few answers wrong now and then, but if you do as much research and fact-checking as possible, you will have the best possible chance of getting your answers right. Remember that Google is your friend.
Of course, not all questions have a right or wrong answer, so in that case you just need to express your ideas as eloquently as you can.
Also, try to "go the extra mile" with your answers. Don't ramble on about things that aren't relevant to the question, but make your answers as complete as possible. For example, if someone asks, "What U.S. state has 7 letters in its name?" don't just name one, name all of them.
If you give good answers, then people will eventually give you trust points. People aren't going to give you trust points if you just write not very detailed answers or if your answers don't make sense, or if you are spamming. So just give good answers, and answer a lot of questions!
