My Windows Vista can be booted in safe mode by doing this: - turn your computer off by the plug - then turn it back on - it should say " windows was not shut down properly the last time it was used" - You can then reboot normally to last used settings - boot in safe mode with MS-DOS - boot in safe mode with networking (internet)

∙ 14y agoJust reboot your computer, if all procedures were completed successfully you will get out of the Safe mode. If it asks you again to boot in the Safe mode you have a problem. How to fix it depends on why you are having that problem. But it's already another question.

If memory serves, backup and restore in vista requires the RPC process to be running, which doesn't run in safe mode. Your best bet is to reinstall Vista, get it up and running in "normal" mode, then do your restore.
