The neutral switch on a 1965 Chevy Impala is located under the transmission shifter. It detects when the vehicle is in park or neutral and allows the engine to be started.
Put your key in the ignition put foot on brake and gently turn the key and the steering wheel. It is probably stuck because your wheels are turned.
Look in the owners manual. There is a button close to gear shift that you can press in a sequence to get unstuck.

Same problem... Its the Headlightswitch. I didnt believe it at first considering I never use it due to DRL switching modes for me, but yeah that's the problem or was for my 2002 Chevy Impala

When you put the van in gear the brake should pop up. You have to have your foot on the brake before taking it out of park.

Look at your drivers manual.. where ever the park switch is, look for a "R".
