Lots of things could be the culprit however the usual problem is sulfur buildup on the sending unit. If you run Seafoam or Techron though the tank it should fix the problem after a couple of tanks. Cheap gas (Non Top Tier) will cause these types of problems.

Turn the ignition key to the run position but don't start the engine; let the initial bells and whistles quit dinging then within five seconds of eachother, pump the fuel pedal 3 times fairly slowly, then turn the key back to the off position. take that head light out and look at the connection to see if the prongs are corroded and not making a good contact. or check for a bad ground or no juice at the plug
AnswerActually all you have to do is: ignition on - engine off - floor the gas pedal 3 times When you turn your ignition on (spot right before you would turn on the engine) push the gas pedal all the way to the floor and allow it to release each time. When that is complete turn your vehicle on. A 2005 Trailblazer will blink its change oil light a few times and then turn off completely. In your manual scratch out "take your car to the dealer" and write this down this procedure instead.
