To provide an answer you need to know,is there a wall or is the ceiling the answer ?First you need to locate the ceiling joist and add support_ for_ the cabinet to be attached to the ceiling, support is a very complicated answer ..you need to have support to be able to hang,, a type of support that will handle the weight of the cabinet and the things you plan to store in it..where are the cabinets going ,what room do you wish to hang the cabinets in ???and how is the ceiling supported to the joist ???
There's a couple of things you can do.
unfortunately, they all will probably involve cutting the cabinets.
Repost this question with a little more information.
Is this an attic apartment or is the ceiling just out of whack?
Roughly how far out of level is it?
If the ceiling is out of whack left to right, just start at the lowest point and and work across level.
You can add a moulding at the top to cover the gap.
If the ceiling is off front to back, you'll need to cut the flange off the top edge of the back and the sides.
If you look down at the top of the cabinet, you'll see that it's recessed slightly into the cabinet. You can cut off that lip (flange) that runs around the top at the back and sides, but it's going to weaken the structure of the cabinet.
You can get around this by adding "blocking" to the wall.
You'll need to get some strips of 3/4" plywood about 6" wide and screw these securely thru the wallboard and into the studs.
Run one at the top, one down about a foot from the top and one so the bottom edge of the blocking will be a shade above the bottom edge of the cabinet. (so it doesn't show.)
Use 2" #8 screws with trim washers to screw the cabinets to the plywood.
You'll want to pre-drill holes in the back of the cabinets for the screws. Keep them 1/2" to 3/4" inch away from the sides of the cabinet. This will make up structurally for the wood you removed from the top of the cabinet.
Don't tighten the screws too much, just enough to keep the cabinet tight to the wall. Those #8 screws have a lot of grab and you could pull the back right out of the cabinet.
Be sure to screw the cabinets together, it will help spread the load out if one cabinet has more stuff in it then another.
hang from the ceiling
Michelangelo's painting does not hang from the ceiling. The painting is actually painted ON the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican.
It's a stalactite that hangs from the ceiling.
Down from ceiling
no they hang on the ceiling
The ceiling.
Stalagmites grow from the floor, stalagtites hang from the ceiling. I remember this by thinking stalagmites "might reach the ceiling" and stalactites are "tightly held"
This could end up being a very long post.I have one more simple questions. Is it out of level front to back or left to right?
You have to know the adhesive AND the ceiling construction really well to do that. I much prefer to find a joist or rafter with a studfinder, then put a hook into the wood to hang anything from a ceiling. - You wouldn't want adhesive failing and dropping something .
Stalactites are stony formations that hang from the ceilings of caves.
You get blue tack and stick it to the ceiling!!
