The same way you might help anyone in this position; hand them a knife. This will quickly illuminate that they do not really want to kill themselves, but are seeking attention. Then some progress might be made in adjusting the person's point of view to hopefully be a bit more conscious. This surely seems harsh; but then so is suicide.
Your dad would do best to go volunteer somewhere helping others in need; but he must see this for himself. If he has a soft spot for children, for example, a trip to an orphanage might be in order. His frustration is well understood, and even shared; the cure is to do something different; anything that pulls your father's gaze up from his navel will suffice.

When that happened all i wanted was her to hold me and tell me everything is going to be OK and that she loves me. Tell him that he means everything to you. you might not be telling him that enough. You make sure he know how much you love him and make sure he knows you will always be there for him no matter what. Now you really need to talk to a professional. you should be so thankful that he was able to tell you that, that means that he wants help. most kids who say they want to kill themselves fell like they do at that time but subconsciously they just want help. Talk to a school counselor or your pediatrician about options and make sure you do this fast. do not let this go on it will only get worse if you don't do anything about it.
