1. Unhook the battery. Jack up the driver's side of the car and block the wheels. Crawl under, find the clutch arm, and unscrew the big wing nut from it. Then go into the engine compartment and unhook the accelerator cable. 2. Go in the passenger compartment and remove the pedal cluster. Make sure to unhook the accelerator cable. When you pull it out, you'll see the clutch cable sticking out a big hole in the side of the transmission tunnel. Before you pull the clutch cable completely out of the car, carefully!!! stick your finger in this hole and feel around for the tube the clutch cable is sticking out of. Also note the hook attached to the clutch pedal. If this hook looks like a hook, go to the next step. If the hook looks like part of it has broken off, you don't need to change the clutch cable. If the hook is okay: 3. Pull the clutch cable out. 4. Paint your new clutch cable to make it last longer. When the paint dries, get a nice big glob of lithium grease in one hand and pull the whole cable through it. 5. Get a newspaper and spread it out on the floor of your car so you don't get the rug covered with grease. Thread the end of the clutch cable into the tube you felt in step 2, then push it in until the clevis at the end is sticking out of the hole about two inches. If the hook is worn off (this happens more than you'd think): 3. There's a bolt on the pedal cluster that holds the hook in. Remove this bolt. Pull out the hook. Grease the shaft of the new hook, put it in place, line up the bolt hole and replace the bolt. In all cases: a. Go back under and put the clutch cable into the clutch arm. Screw the wing nut on until it just touches the clutch arm, then back it off a couple of turns. b. Get out from under and check the clutch free play: you want about a quarter inch of travel before you feel resistance. c. Put the car back on the ground and hook up the battery, then test drive the car to be sure it shifts nicely.

For this you don't have to unhook the battery! Step 1: jack up the left side of the car. Crawl under, find the clutch lever and remove the clutch cable adjusting nut. Step 2: open the hood and unhook the accelerator cable. Step 3: remove the two bolts holding the pedal cluster in, and extract the pedal cluster from the car. You will find one of two things: that the clevis on the end of the clutch cable wore through (it's made of pot metal, so it happens), or that the hook on the end of the clutch pedal wore through. The odds of either happening are about equal. If it's the pedal hook, stop what you're doing. Take the pedal cluster away from the car. The hook is pushed into a tube and secured with one small bolt. Step 5: Have someone go into the car with a ruler. Press the clutch pedal in about half an inch. When it's down, you screw the adjuster nut down until it touches the clutch lever. Step 6: let the car back down and hook the accelerator cable back up. You're done.

Start by unhooking the accelerator cable from the carb, then undoing the two bolts that hold the pedal cluster to the tunnel, unhook the accelerator cable, and pull the pedal cluster out. The piece that was inside the tunnel is where the problem lies. If the hook broke off, you've got to replace the shaft. If it DIDN'T break off, you wore through the pin in the clutch cable clevis that goes over the hook. Assuming the hook's broken, start by finding the alignment bolt for the shaft, and remove it. It's a hex-head bolt sticking out of the clutch pedal arm down at the base, and you'll see it. Use a big hammer and a big drift to beat the shaft out of the pedal cluster. Put some grease--lithium, moly, CV grease, whatever you have--on the shaft and slide it into the cluster. Rotate it so the hook is up and the hole for the alignment bolt is lined up, and install the bolt. Jack the left side of your car up and loosen the clutch cable a LOT--you can remove the adjuster nut if you'd like. Catch the pin in the clutch cable clevis over the hook, then set the pedal cluster about where it goes. The brake pedal has a pin coming off it that works the master cylinder. Put this pin into the master cylinder, hook up the accelerator cable and bolt the pedal cluster back in. Finally, adjust the throttle and clutch cables.

LHD is 129 to 130mm. When dimension is correct,refit retaining clip on clutch arm. Note Clutch pedal correctly set will be higher than brake and have no free play. Refit relay box and hydraulic res.
