make sure to lean the bike on the opposite side of the kickstand,as the derby cover is also the plate you remove to check the primary chaincase oil-or trans oil. you'll need an Allen key. if u need more directions, sell ur bike.
Harley Davidson "Derby Cover"A "Derby Cover" is basically a dust cover. It's on the left side of your bike and covers the business end of your clutch. It's the larger cover with (usually) 4-6 screws holding it in place. However my '85 Sportster has no screws in the "Derby Cover". Instead there's a two inch (2") screw-cap in the center of my "Derby Cover" with a large closed slot in the center. That's it! there are no other screws holding it in place.
On the leftside inside what is known as the primary cover. Access can be gained via the Derby cover.
remove the derby ( round) cover and fill until it tries to run out of the derby hole.
What is a primary mount? You have an inner primary, outer primary, inspection cover, and derby cover.
You remove the derby cover (the large round cover on the left side of the bike) and fill there.

Most of us use 20/50 oil. same as we use in the engine. Simply remove the derby cover, fill until it tries to run out the derby, replace the derby cover. Harley recommends their own fluid. Either way is your own decision.
Remove the derby cover on the back end of the primary cover. Behind it you will find a spring and nut. Both slide off. Remove the nut behind that. You have to turn the screw inside it to get it out. remove the bolts from the primary cover and pull if off, AFTER you drain the oil. Once you are done, install the cover and put the first nut back on and turn the screw, just until it bottoms and then back out about 1/8 turn. Put the other nut back on and the spring. Put in your oil and install the cover.
through the primary chain adjustment cover .. through primary chain adjustment cover located on the primary cover... I refill mine through the derby cover (clutch cover). they even make a special funnel you can buy to make it easy. The derby cover is the big round cover on the rear of the primary. When you attempt this make sure you have a new gasket handy. Be sure not to overfill!
