Assuming that there is no ignition issues with this vehicle and its not a 1st time install, you must make sure you mark theBODY and ROTOR position of theDistributor prior to removal. This vehicle has NO WAY of setting Timing with a Timing Light. You must use a Scanner to set it up.
Remove all necessary parts to gain access to the top of the rotor. CLEAN all surfaces that the Distributor Cap sits on and locate the #8 for a V-8 or #6 for a V-6 application this is where abouts the ROTOR must point during installation and should be close to it when you are removing it. Mark the position of the Electrical Connector in respect to the Firewall. Makes it easy to locate position of installation. Remove hold down bolt, Ibelieve its a 13mm. Use a 1/4 " drive flex head socket with a locking extension if you have it, to ease the removal and not loose the tools in the process. Not a lot of room in the back of the engine for tools and parts. Once you remove the Hold Down Bolt, look at the rotation of the rotor as you are removing it , it should becounter-clockwise. This will allow you to install the distributor with less fuss knowing that you need to install it slightly counter-clockwise for it to fall into place.
**NOTE: Upon removal you might need to realign the OIL PUMP SHAFT in the motor to align up with the Distributor Shaft. Use a LARGE Flat Heat Screw Driver, this will prevent you from dropping it and lets you have a large surface contact area on the shaft. *** Now install the new Rotor on the distributor and line up the marks. Once you have installed the distributor, you will want to snug the hold down bolt. Do not over tighten it so that you are able to move the distributor back and forth for setting the Timing Advance. Here is where you need to play attention. Have someone in the vehicle to start the vehicle, you will need the Scanner plugged in and watch the IGNITION ADVANCE P.I.D or the reference # it gives once you start the vehicle. Zero ( 0 ) degrees +/- 2 degrees is normal at 1500/1800 RPM. You must have your person in the vehicle rev the engine to 1500-1800 RPM while you are setting this. Get the degrees as close to ( 0 ) as you can and lock the distributor down. Make sure you don't have any Misfire Issues by power breaking the vehicle or putting it under load which might be evident if you are off on your timing settings.
Good Luck
Nothing
replace the cap, it most likely has a hairline crack or bad seal.
That would be a 4L60E.
