You may need to access it from the engine compartment, near the front of the engine, where the power steering pump is mounted. To replace the rack and pinion steering on a 1997 Lincoln Continental, first, safely lift and support the vehicle. Disconnect the battery, then remove the front tires and access the steering components by detaching the tie rod ends and any necessary brackets. Next, unbolt the rack and pinion from its mounts, disconnect the power steering lines, and remove it from the vehicle. Install the new rack and pinion by reversing the process, ensuring all connections are secure and properly aligned before reassembling and testing the steering system.
