First go to your local Toyota dealer and buy good spark plugs for your car, you will save in fuel milage and reliablilty...on the top of your engine there are 2 coil packs with a plug wire going to the adjacent plug, one coil fires 2 spark plugs, remove each coil and wire by slightly pulling and wiggling a the same time, check both coils and wires for cracks, damage, etc. Use a corrct size socket, extention and rachet to remove spark plugs one at a time, try not to get dirt and grime down hole in process. Always put new spark plugs in by hand to start it and not to crossthread into hole, tighten down plugs handtight with rachet, a little bit of di-electric lube on ends of spar plugs boots wouldn't hurt, put coil packs back on and don't forget to plug wiring hanress back in, if engine has a skip afterwards, double check eveything...
You use a ratchett?
spark plugs = the number of cylinders your car has. Tercel should be a 4 cylinder so 4 spark plugs.

Check for the possibility of one or more bad spark plugs. (A loose plug might also cause this). On a 1995 Tercel, plugs are not too difficult to replace yourself with the appropriate tools. You'll need the appropriate socket and a long adapter since the plugs are positioned lower. sg
On my 1992 Tercel the gap is .044 inches. When you buy plugs, the manual (at least the Champion manual) should also have gap specs for the car.
