To install a shifter linkage on a NP model 205 transfer case it takes a few steps. Start with a new gasket positioning the transfer case to the extension, install the bolts and nuts, connect the shift rod to the shift lever arm, secure with the spring and washer, connect the front wheel shaft to the case, connect the rear axle and then you are done.
How do you adjust an F-250 shifter cable? 2000 model

There are 2 possibilities... the rear axle shafts may be either broken or splines may be stripped off (common for model 20 axles) or the shifter linkage for the rear output shaft on the transfer case may be broken. Try lifting the rear tires off the ground with the vehicle in neutral and turn the tires by hand... if the driveshaft turns check the linkage, if it doesnt replace the axle shafts!
snowblower model 944528394 sears craftsman speed shifter fell off, and needs to be reattached
If you plan on using the original shifter then you will need the one specifically for your car. If you plan on installing a universal shifter, then it will come with a new cable.
Please tell me how to install the bolt in a Remington Model 512
This depends on the model of jeep your looking at. Older cherokees will have a second shifter to the left of the standard shifter. This smaller shifter will have options such as 4WD Part time, 4WD Full time ect.
Can provide pictures of linkage. How do I add pics to answer page?
If you can run the shifter down through the positions it may have broken loose at the transmission . If the shifter doesn't move at all it may be a problem in the steering column < unless it is a floor shifter >. If it is a floor shift model I'd start by checking the shifter release button to see if it is broken.
All things are possible. I'll assume your year & model car had the manual trans. option. In that case, pull out auto trans, all linkage and electronics. Install manual trans, all linkage (clutch and brake pedals too) and electronics from another car of interchangable (ask wrecking yard about this) make and model. Identical year would probably be easiest. Warning: this may not be real fun. Hope that helps.
Probably the shift linkage in that model.
You can only engage or disengage low range if you are at a stop, foot on the brake and the gear shift in N (Neutral) if it like my 1999 model it could be a couple reasons...for starters...I'm not too familiar with the 97 but I'm wondering if's it electronic 4x4 to 2x4 or is a manual lever...only work I've done on a vehicle that was 4x4 for that same reason was underneath the vehicle...there's your shifter linkage to shift from 2x4 to 4x4...I'm guessing there's a tightening screw on the lever that connects the lever to the transmission linkage...because you should be able to take them both apart for removal of the transfer case...try to go under the vehicle and manually switch the linkage with your hand or other tool to see if the light goes out...if that doesn't work...there's something wrong with the sensor.
