When starting a new aquarium sometimes it is best that before you put any fish in it that you let it cycle (let the filter and other equipment run) for about a week or two. This helps the good bacteria needed for fish survival to build up so that when your fish is added it doesn't struggle with building it up himself.
The problem that we have ATM is that all our fish seem to be dying with no sinlg eclear indicator. Firstly, we have a 250 litre tank with 1 upside down catfish, 1 Indian algae eater, 3 white clouds, 9 red cherry barbs, 5 green tiger barbs, 2 rainbow sharks and 3 clowl loachs (plus a khali loach but u never see him) .. within the past week, our fish have jsut been getting knowcked off one at a time. There was a juvinile red Oscar (beautiful colour) that died, then 2 of the adult tiger babs, then a rainbow shark and now the upside down catfish and other rainbow shark are showing simlilar symptoms.
Symptoms include;
Very eratic swimming, often nose divingn into the groand.
the Barbs swam near the surfae which was very unusual
dorsal fins were split
often a los of color
often seen doing corkscrews and swiming in a spiral direction. (regardless of species)
I have taken the water samples to the pet store and they have told me that the water is perfect, just finished its cycle and isbalanced in amonia, nitrate and pH.
The tank is large so cannot be overstocked
Please help if this seems at all familiar to you or if you could help me out!!!!
Thanks!
You research proper fish care! And it will depend on the species of fish also. Basically it's your job as a fishkeeper to keep the water quality healthy, this will be achieved by making sure your tank completes the nitrogen cycle before hand, it must be filtered (unless you're going for a Walstad/El Natural set up, which is pretty technical also) and it must meet the requirements of the fish species you are keeping. An overstocked tank is going to end in failure, an unfiltered ill-maintained tank will also fail.
Basically to keep fish happy and healthy in an aquarium it's down to you to do as much research and possible! You can never stop learning in this hobby. NO ONE knows everything!
feed them
Dead or dying
This depends on many things like how many fish are in the tank, what is the dying fish diagnosed with and what type of fish are in the tank. If you did want to be on the safe side of your other fish i would remove the fish but unfortunately this could cause less chance of survival because moving the fish can cause stress which will sicken the fish even more so the best solution is to, remove the healthy fish(s) into adifferent area and keep the un healthy fish in the aquarium or fish tank.
yes
fish do not die in filtered water instead they will de if there is no filtered water try ussing one of the fluval brands for the size of your tank. maybe you did not cycle the tank before you add fish. how big is your tank and what fish o you keep?
You will probably find that the reason the fish playing in the bubble screen are surviving is as is shown by their playfulness, these fish are healthy The other fish moping around the tank who can't be bothered to play in the screen may in fact be feeling a little rubbish. This is just a guess of course with out seeing your tank it is hard for me to say for def. Do the dying fish have any symptoms of any thing else, what type of fish are dying? how long have you had them? What other fish do you have in your tank?
IN WATER!!!! (TANK!!)
it cleans the tank and keep the fish heathy
There are a variety of fish that can keep a tank clean. The type of fish will depend on the type of aquarium setup. In a freshwater tank, different types of plecostomus are most common.
Not unless you had another fish in there.
fish tank
It's sick and/or dying.
They will usually do this if they sense that a fish is sick or is dying. Usually they will try to eat it
