When you transfer to another bus, the luggage doesn't transfer by itself, you have to do it personally. The handlers unloading the luggage don't make sure its going to the right person, so watch carefully. When you get on the next bus, hand it to the luggage guys to put it on.
If you really want to be paranoid, you could get a seat on the right side of the bus and watch the luggage being unloaded when the bus makes stops, just to make sure your luggage doesn't get accidentally or maliciously unloaded.
And always keep a eye on it when you're in the station.
