One quick and easy way is to wait until after the truck has been sitting cold for a couple of hours, then turning the key to the "Run" position and listen for a buzzing noise from behind you or have a friend open the gas cap and listen for the sound of the pump spinning inside the tank. If you don't hear anything, you'll need to use a multimeter at the tank fittings to check for pump voltage. If you do hear the pump working and it still runs bad under load, you may want to replace the fuel filter.
If you do not hear the pump run of course it is bad or the fuse or relay is defective. Even if it is running the pump may be defective and not pumping any fuel. A fuel pressure test will verify the condition of the fuel pump. Make sure you replace the fuel filter.
A few possibilities could be the fuel pump relay is bad, the fuel pressure regulator is bad, the fuel pump circuit wiring may be bad and maybe the new pump is bad.
Bypass the relay and if the pump works the relay is bad.
Blown fuse or bad fuel pump relay.
The fuel pump for a 2000 gm. Yukon does not have an inertia shut off. If there is no fuel then the pump or pump relay could be bad.
A fuel pump pressure test could determine the condition of the fuel pump and fuel system.
how do i know the fuel pump is going bad in a 1998 ford expedition eddie bauer?
there is not one! if pump does not work it is a fuse, relay, or a bad fuel pump.
Have the a fuel pump pressure tested.
Have a fuel pump pressure test done.
there should be other relays in the vehical that are identicle, try swithing them.
check the the pump pressure at the rail
