According to the U.S. Copyright Office, a word cannot be copyrighted. Copyright does not protect "titles, names, short phrases, and slogans; familiar symbols or designs; mere variations of typographic ornamentation, lettering, or coloring; mere listings of ingredients or contents". A word can be trademarked for commercial use; that is an entirely different process. To search for a US trademark, go to the US Patent and Trademark Office site given below, and click "Trademark".
A word or title is usually not able to be copyrighted. However, it could be Trademarked.

The word? No. The band and the candy have multiple trademark registrations, and there are literally millions of copyrighted works with "kiss" in the title.
I would assume only logos and trademarks would be copyrighted. If you give more detail and information of what you like to know is copyrighted i will try and help further
Happy birthday is actually a copyrighted song. I don't know who by, but someone must be making heaps!
