Most commonly there an indicator tab on the pads which causes the squeak associated with needing brakes. If by chance the tab is missing or broken off; then u have to look vertically at the pad and there is a clear distinction between what is brake pad and the back piece of metal which holds it. Also if your pad has any abnormal wear or grooves in it then it should be replaced.

On all the brake pads which are made, they make them where they will begin to squeak if they need to be replaced. If they are squeaking then you need to get them checked immediately.

What is replaced with brake repair?

Most often a brake repair simply involves replacing the brake pads. If the pads have worn too much though the rotors or drums will also need to be resurfaced or replaced. Where to put brake fluid in an 1989 Dodge Spirit?

Before you add brake fluid, are you SURE you need to add some? Because as brake pads wear, the brake fluid level goes down, but the brake pads need to be replaced then, BEFORE any brake fluid is added. Otherwise, when the brake pads ARE replaced, there will be too much brake fluid in the reservoir, and it will flow out when the pistons are pushed back into it's bore, to make room for the new pads. -Tom.

The front brake pads have wear indicators that will cause a squealing noise during braking when the pads need replacement. If you don't have this noise during braking they don't need replaced. Rear pads should last through 2-3 sets of front pads. The brake fluid should be replaced every three years.
