Hi
Most modern cars have one heater plug per cylinder.
An easy way to check if they are working and working correctly. is to first take them out. Use a heavy electrical cable such as jump leads and connect them to a battery. Connect the negative to the body of the heater plug, and tough the electrical connection with the positive. The plug will become red hot so be careful. If the tip of the plug becomes red it is OK .
Don't hold the connection to long as you my burn out your heater plug. If the plug tip glows not at the tip, but in the middle the plug is defective, and should be replaced.
Or alternatively simply change the heater plugs every second year if you live in a cold climate.
Or consult your dealer for more information.
I test them this way without removing them from the engine, disconnect the electrical connection to each glow plug, attach a test light to the positive side of the battery, touch the test light to each glow plug electrical connection, if the test light lights up,theglow plug is good, if the test light does not light up the glow plug is burned out.
Most are in the freeze plugs and require special tools and know how.
