Easiest way is to spray some lubricant on it while it is running. If the sounds goes away you know its the belt. Could also be noise from the a/c clutch, Power Steering pump, etc.
That I know of, there is NO serpentine belt, unless you are talking about the the Timing Belt (hardly serpentine, but anyway), it has a belt tensioner, not automatic, though.
Nine times out of ten it is a worn serpentine belt. Tensioners are also know to make a rattling noise congruently. Changing your belt and/or tensioner should solve your problem.
Probably the idler pulley or the tensioner pulley on the serpentine belt. Carefully use a little squirt bottle and spray each one with a little water. When it gets quiet you know which one to change.
don't know about belt; but the noise might be water pump or AC compressor (if installed). Mine has same. hi there mate I'm a Toyota tech. you need a need belt and tensioner its hydrolic therefore not adjustable.
when the belt has no slack in it
I need to know if I need a special to to change my serpentine belt on a 2001 Buick Regal
Yes, I know of no engine where the alternator is driven by the cam belt. The alternator is driven by a drive belt or serpentine belt.
Raise the hood and look at the belt. If it is broken you will readily see this.
I don't know too.
Look on the back side of the serpentine belt (the side of the belt with the ribs). If any of the ribs are cracked the belt should be replaced. Take a look at the physical condition. If it is cracked on the inside (groove or V side) it needs to be replaced.
Since you already had the serpentine belt changed. Lets check some things out; Did you see or notice the new serpentine belt? Was it indeed replaced? If so let do some tests. ***Safety First*** You can do this test while vehicle is running, or if you don't feel comfortable doing it while vehicle is running turn it off. After each test restart engine.Test #1; Spray some WD-40 on the tensioned pulley (ONLY) and see if it stops making noise. If it does stops making noise them replace that tensioned pulley. But if noise continues. = Test #2 = Move to the next pulley and repeat the process of spraying some WD-40 on each of pulleys (ONE PULLEY AT A TIME).Reminder do (ONE PULLEY AT A TIME). Wait until noise goes away. If it does then replace that pulley. And, so on. After spraying all pulleys and noise is still there. We need you to pay more attention to exactly where the noise is coming from and then we go from thereon Good Luck, and let me know If I was able to help. Happy New years, Al
