Bad tire? Bad wheel bearing? Bent wheel? Bent axle?
The way to tell if you have a bad wheel bearing is when you are driving and go into a hard corner. The wheel that is on the inside of the corner stops making a humming noise. I just replaced my Driver Rear bearing on my 2004 VW Gti
Most of the time you can hear a bad wheel bearing but the only 100% sure way to know is to remove the bearing and inspect it.Most of the time you can hear a bad wheel bearing but the only 100% sure way to know is to remove the bearing and inspect it.
Bad tire, wheel bearing, bent wheel???
no.not if its a car accident
Bad Tire or wheel bearing, rotate the tires to the front if the noise follows its the tire if remains in rear its the wheel bearing
Rear bearing is bad or cv joint is bad.check boots for rips.Check rear wheel bearing first that the cheapest fix
i also thought my 2004, tacoma had a bad wheel bearing. It turned out that it was the wheel itself not the bearing. Try rotating the tires and see if the noise moves to the rear. I waited 30000 miles to rotate, hopefully that will help.

I have a 2003 that sounds like it has a bad rear hub bearing. I plan to change it this week. I'll let you know when I'm done.
If you hear a noise you suspect is a bad wheel bearing try this. While driving slowly turn the wheel sharply to the left. If the noise goes away your left front wheel bearing is bad. Now, turn sharply to the right. If the noise goes away you right front wheel bearing is bad. The only 100% sure fire way to know for sure is to remove the wheel bearing and inspect it.
If you do not change a bad wheel bearing the bearing will cut a groov in the axle.If it goes on long enough the axle will have to be replaced. It could also ruin the axle housing. Then you would have to replace the rearend.
