without using a scanner and pulling a fault code, its kind of a crap shot. usually that's the only way to tell if that sensor has gone bad. if the engine is knocking badly there's probably an underlying issue that needs to be addressed.

No, it is not a knock sensor at all. An AF (Air/Fuel Ratio) sensor is also know as a wide range oxygen sensor. It is the newer type oxygen sensor.
