IF my memory serves me rightturn the crank to top dead centre (tdc) remover the distributor cap and the rotor arm should be pointing to number one plug lead if it goes to number 6 then its 180 degrees out
Need to know what year.
It shouldn't matter.
Need to know the year and engine size.
Need to know the year of engine.
Chevy does not cast the block size onto the block. once you see a big block compared small block you will know the difference. at a glance with nothing to compare it to id say look at the head. small block heads have one exhaust port close the ends and two exhaust ports real close together in the middle. the big blocks exhaust ports are evenly spaced and not close together at all. If it is a 350 or smaller it is a small block. If it is a 396 or larger it is a big block except for the 400 which was made in both small block and big block configuration.
Need to know what is wrong with it before we can help Joe fix it.
They made a few versions of it. I would have to know which motor you have.
Not that I know of, however, I think they do for the pick ups.
It sounds like you want to know how to change the engine in a 1970 Chevy truck from a small block to a big block. If that is the case; there is no difference in the mounting of the engine to the transmission or motor mounts. The exhaust system will need to be changed, and the small block radiator might not be big enough to handle the extra heat made by a big block when it's being worked. (such as on a hot day or pulling a heavy load)
Although I do not know the answer you need to be more specific. There is more than one small block Chevy. There is the 262, 265, 283, 302, 305, 307, 327, 350, & 400. All of these were small blocks made at different times, but they do not all weigh the same. The basic block weights approximately 181. The weight differences through out the years for the bare block did not vary more than a few pounds.
There is a pad, right in front of the drivers side cylinder head. These numbers will tell you ev erything about your motor.
If you know what you are doing you can put ANY engine that you want in it. Small are BIG block. They will all fit.
