The breeds of fighting fish can vary, although usually male bettas have the long, flowing fins that make these fish so popular. Females have short, rounded fins, similar to the original wild betta. It is, however, possible to find males with natural fins for sale. These are usually sold more for sport fighting than the pet trade. Females and wild males rarely have the bright colors bred into them and generally have dark brownish bodies with barred patterns and red and blue fins.

∙ 7y agoA male Betta fish frame is longer than a females. Female betta fish are often rounder than males. When a female is ready to breed, she will grow horizontal stripes along their abdomen. Male (and masculine female) Betta fish build bubble nests in the tank. And in Betta Splendens, male fins are longer then females. I hope I helped.😁

It's easy to tell if your Betta fish is male or female. The females are generally much smaller than the males, more plainly colored and have shorter fins. The males are larger, more colorful and have large fins that are used to both attract a mate and appear threatening to other males.

∙ 8y agoMost people simply go by the ol' fin length rule(males with long fins, female fins with short fins), but this mainly applies for splendens and doesn't apply for all bettas. Female bettas have thin body with a thick abdomen. When ready for mating, you can see her small white egg-passing tube called an ovipositor, an egg passing organ. she may also gain horizontal stripes. Males are, overall, bulky and have slightly larger heads. Most male bettas have longer ventral fins than females. Hope I helped! :D
