How do you know if your snail is hungry tired or sleeping?

if it is up and moveing about it is happy if it is moveing really slow and wont move it is tired and sleepy if you lay leaf down in the bottom of the cage and set it on the leaf [bubby leafs work the best] it will eat a hole thre the leaf

First, see if it is moving around or not. Then, if you are suspicious that it is dead, take it out of the tank and gently pry at that brown thing that completely seals the snail shell when closed, and see if it reacts or not. If it still doesn't, try a little harder, or poke the flesh. It is kind of painful, so I suggest you try not to do it unless if you are REALLY desperate. (There probably is a better way, but that's how I do it.. 0_o)

Snails don't have moods such as people do. It's a common thing for people to project human like emotions onto their pets to make them more understandable and easier to associate with. This however can be as much a good thing as a bad. In the case of a snail it should be safe. A tiger on the other hand may not be so safe
