How do you know when products like vitamin water are good for you?

It's not bad for you compared to other things you could be drinking like soda. But if you are only drinking it for the vitamins it's better to just take a multi-vitamin and a bottle of water. You'll be saving yourself about 125 calories and 32g of sugar per bottle.

Personally, I think Gatorade is much better then Vitamin Water. Vitamin Water certainly has some healthy ingredients and maybe fewer calories, but it cannot match the sheer flavor of Gatorade.

There is no way to know. The company producing them wants you to buy them, so obviously they're going to try to influence your purchase. The Vitaminwater made by Coca Cola has a bunch of sugar in it. Stuff like Propel, and others like it are made with artificial sweeteners. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence to suggest that low-cal sweeteners have adverse health effects. The FDA has approved it, so it must be at least relatively safe, but there is no evidence to suggest that it is good for you.

Vitamin water does not contain sufficient vitamins to provide deep health benefits.
