There are typically two indicators of a faulty master cylinder:
1. you press on the pedal and it goes straight to the floor. If you have fluid, you're not leaking at the wheel cylinders and you have bled the air from the line... it's a master cylinder.
2. You press on the pedal, have some brakes then the pedal fades to the floor.
In either case, it's the master cylinder.
Of course, if it's leaking or sucking air and sending up bubbles into the reservoir when a friend presses the pedal... that too. Every time you press the pedal there should be a little "swirl" of brake fluid in the reservoir, but there should never be bubbles.
how do i know the master cylinder is bad ?
A brake master cylinder? If you are losing brakes or brake fluid.
Need to know how to assemble 95 Chevy clutch master cylinder?
One sign is if you place you foot on the brake pedal and apply steady pressure, and the pedal slowing goes down toward the floor, the master cylinder is bad. As this car is 9 years old, when replacing the master cylinder, replace all the brake fluid in the entire system with fresh fluid from an unopened can. 1. It could have a leak at the master cylender. 2. the brake peddle slowly goes all the way to the floor.
It's on the master cylinder on the firewall. If you do not know what a master cylinder is do a google on it and get some pics.
i dont know thats why im asking the internet
my husband is trying to replace the master cylinder on a 1994 grand am. he was wondering on how to align the gears for the abs.
Whenever you are having a problem with the clutch disengaging the engine from the transmission it is advisable to bleed the clutch slave cylinder. If the clutch can't be operated by bleeding the slave cylinder then the clutch master cylinder is gone and should be replaced.
That depends on where it's leaking out; if it's at the master cylinder, you have a bad master cylinder, if it's at the wheel cylinder you have a bad wheel cylinder if it's at a caliper... well, you get the idea. If you know how to repair a master cylinder, wheel cylinder or caliper, you can often get by with a little savings but it's usually best to just trot down to your local auto parts retailer and get a new or rebuilt one.
When your boyfriend has sex with someone else. :(its happens to my best friend
Trying to bleed my 2001 f250 master hyd. clutch and slave cylinder but there are no bleeder valves on either one, I know it has air in lines but can't seam to get it out.
The most common sign of a failing master cylinder is when you stop and while sitting there with your foot on the brake pedal, it slowly goes down toward the floor. Replace it immediately.
