Best Answer

Walk on the left side of the horse with a halter and a leadrope on it. Put you right hand on the leadrope about a foot from its face and hold the end with you left hand so the horse doesn't trip. Walk at a steady pace and stay up by its head. If the horse pulls or spooks, stop it, talk to it, and then continue walking.

Answer

Lunge your horse at a walk in a small circle through the gate, then have the horse turn his hindquarters and wait for you to come through the gate after him. Then after closing the opening lead the horse away from the pasture.

Should a horse stall be cleaned daily?

At a very minimum, a horse's stall should be cleaned daily. Preferably, a stall should be cleaned twice a day. Leaving urine and feces in a stall for an extended period of time can lead to many health problems for your horse. Thrush, a fungi, can develop in your horses feet due to the bacteria and moisture left by urine and feces. This can lead to lameness and extreme cases severe permanent hoof problems. Respiratory issues are also caused by the ammonia in urine. Skin problems, such as scratches and other bacterial infections, can develop on the lower leg of a horse. Overall, cleaning a horse's stall will make him happier and healthier, imagine standing in your own urine and feces all day--not fun!

How do you approach and lead a horse safely from a stall corral or field?

You should always stand to the left side of a horse with your hip even with it's shoulder and your right arm close to the lead shank, 'snaking' the rope in front of you and holding it with your left hand. This will ensure that if the horse rears up you will not be in danger of being struck. IF the horse bolts forward it will not run over you and you can always pull it's head around to the left (staying at his/her shoulder) to circle it and calm it down. NEVER lead a horse with it following you!!

A halter and lead rope. The halter is a device that is strapped onto the horse's head, and then the lead rope can be attached and detached to the halter. The lead rope allows more room between you and your horse while leading for safely reasons.

Can I lead my shetland pony on a pavement If not can I lead her on the road or do i need to stand on pavement and her on road I live in the UK?

You can walk your horse on the pavement, it will not hurt it. Even if your horse does not wear shoes they can be safely walked on pavement. Just be careful that the horse does not slip if the pavement is wet or slippery and its not a good idea to trot or canter on pavement for very long of a distance.

What is the safest way to move your horse?

The safest way to move a horse depends on where your moving it to - if you are just moving your horse to another stall or a paddock, just fasten on a lead - rein onto the horses halter and away you go. If you are moving the horse in a trailer, it is easiest to take a horse blanket with a hood and fasten it on the horses, attach the lead - rein to the halter or harness, and thread the rein through a loop or notch on the trailer wall. Don't forget to put on the special, protective horse boots if your horse gets frightened easily!

What are the most common signs if your horse is bored?

If your horse is bored he will start weaving in his stall which means he will swing his head side to side in the door frame. This can be prevented by getting a special weaving door frame, this should be prevented as soon as possible because it can lead to lamenitis. Horses will also pace in their stall, become sour towards other horses and people, and crib. (Cribbing is when the horse holds onto a piece of wood and sucks in air through his mouth and this can lead to colic. This can be prevented by a special cribbing collar) If your horse shows these signs IMMEDIATELY do something, these symptoms lead to colic, ulcers, and horses being cast in their stalls. A good remedy is more turn out, especially with other horses, hand walking, more riding, or putting a toy in their stall such as a jolly-ball, lick-it, or a hanging out ball to play with.
