Then place a smaller socket over the nut and hit it a few times with a hammer; this is crucial for loosening very tight nuts. Then use a breaker bar and socket to remove the nut. If you have no success, slide a piece of metal pipe over the breaker bar handle for more leverage or use an impact wrench.
