Another option is to use alternative Instant Messaging applications that provide support for the MSN Messenger network. This is not an extensive list, but your options include:

Use Google Chrome or Firefox instead
It is most likely Internet Explorer, not your laptop.Internet Explorer is incredibly outdated and is a huge CPU resource hogger. I suggest you download and use either Google Chrome or Firefox instead.
Google browser has one advantage: It is so simple that it doesn't use much ram. However, this comes at a cost of features (and aesthetic looks too). I personally would use Internet Explorer instead of Google Browser. I also don't trust Google not to keep tabs on whatever sites I go to; their main source of revenue is targeted ads, so they want to know what I like. I prefer Firefox (3 beta) with AdBlock Plus so I get a quick and secure and feature-packed and nice-looking browser without any ads at all.
It was Google. Why? You know when you put internet explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc. it sometimes starts with Google. Google was put first to make things easier to search instead of putting it on the web browser bar
If it were me I'd go to a computer shop or a friend who's good with computers and ask them! :)
I tried to change the DNA on internet explorer and it would not work, use mozilla firefox instead.
Using the IE menu click on 'Tools', then click on 'Internet Options', then click on the tab 'Programs'. You should see a button 'Make Default' under the heading 'Default Web Browser'. The software that allows computers to connect to the Web and browse is called a web browser. Most people are familiar with Internet Explorer. There are many alternatives as well. The popular choices include Firefox, Chrome, and Opera. For those who want more performance, they may try modified versions of those such as Iron (instead of Chrome), Pale Moon (instead of Firefox), Waterfox (instead of Firefox), etc.
Go in control panel -> internet options -> Prgrams tab and make sure the checkbox at the bottom IS CHECKED. if it isn't, check it, and fire up IE, and a popup should appear, telling you IE is not the default browser, and asking u if you wish to make it default. choose yes and u're done.
That is hard to know without the error messages. The easiest thing to do would be to use Google Chrome or Firefox instead.
