(Previous answer here deleted as it was irrelevant and did not answer the question). There do not seem to be any negative health effects of eating TVP, also called "textured soy protein". Basically it is a dehydrated, bulk form of protein extracted from soybeans, and is commonly used as an ingredient in meat-substitute products and in vegetarian products to provide higher protein content. Given the chemical makeup of TVP, I would not think it would be dangerous at all. It is in widespread use in many commercial products, as well as being available in bulk form for cooking.
It is usually the byproduct of soybeans used to make other products, like vegetable oil.
TVP is often added to another ingredient (such as ground beef) to add bulk or a protein source (vegetarian cooking) to a dish. It has no flavor or texture of it's own but takes on the flavor of and adds to the texture of what it is cooked with.
