If you are looking for something exceptionally different, why not take the ultimate loser of the Star Trek universe, the crew member in the red shirt, and turn it into a horror costume. All you need to do is add some damage to the entire outfit, gore make-up all over your face, and you look like the guy on the planet who didn't make it. Whether you were taken apart by the Gorn or were at the wrong end of a phaser battle, there is no reason that you can't turn a Star Trek costume into something a little closer to the scary side of Halloween. Whether you are doing a Star Trek outfit alone, or putting together an entire crew, you are going to have a fantastic time searching out the universe this Halloween.

In a sense, we have already done this: the two Voyager missions (Voyager 1 and Voyager 2) from the late 1970s and early 1980s have unmanned interstellar probes that are both now slowly leaving our solar system and will travel close to other star systems; Voyager 1 and 2 will be the first man-made objects to leave our solar system, which will happen in the next 4-5 years. Voyager 1 is not aimed at a particular star, but within 40,000 years it will be about 1.5 light years from a star called AC+79 3888. Voyager 2 is also not aimed at a particular star, but in about 300,000 years it will be about 1.3 parsecs from Sirius, the North Star. As you can see, it takes a long time for space vehicles to travel to other stars. Currently, we don't have the technology as you may have seen in Star Wars or Star Trek to travel faster to other stars, or to travel faster than the speed of light, but perhaps one day we will have this technology.
