get a 2-3 inch steel tube, pipe bender, pipe clamps, and some black rubber tubing, and a your favorite non-disposable conical filter. probably want to make a heat/dust shield out of tin
more than likely a valve!
Also,do you adjust them warm or cold?
idk exact specifics, but after installing mine there is a definite notice in increased hp. i strongly suggest the cold air intake.
warm engine-95~100 Nm (69~72 ft lb) cold engine-82~88 Nm (59~64 ft lb)
cold intake is 0.003 in or .07 mm cold exhaust is 0.003 in or .07 mm
Mazda had issues with poor oil circulation on the 1986-1990 models and some there after.Short of it is they did offer new valves with bigger oil ports to help fix the tap noise on cold start up.Now the 1986 model does require valve adjustments and the previous post recommended 15,000 miles which should be correct. But running 10w30 and changing the filter every 3000 helps alot.I would get the valves adjusted and do the normal service there after.Mazda has had this issue and even with my 87 it does it from time to time with the retro fit job done to it.Best suggestion and information I can offer after owning mine for 23 years.
Valve clearance (cold) Intake 0.005 to 0.007 in Exhaust 0.010 to 0.012 in
By installing an cold air intake on a mustang
removed cats, backing down from high rpm rev ranges, hot engines, high amounts of fuel going into the engine, and the excess gets burnt after the combustion process in the muffler. a good cold air intake will help with backfiring, and a wide full exhaust system.
A cold air intake will increase your horse power
Cold air intake is better because it's denser.
You will not damage your engine if you remove its cold air intake. The cold air intake system is merely added to increase engine efficiency and performance.
