Salt will kill them on contact but you have to use a lot of salt. Best to buy in bulk and pulverize in the blender the type used for water softening. It won't harm your floors, carpets or upholstery. Let it sit a few hours and vacuum.

Follow these few short steps to completely get rid of fleas. First, you need to hold your cat snugly enough to vacuum them from head to tail. I've found that nothing works better than using the small tip on the vacuum cleaner. Fair warning: the cat will do things with it's body that you didn't think possible when you are vacuuming around their nether regions. It really helps if you first get one of those contraptions seen in the film A Clockwork Orange to hold their eyes open while you do this. This ensures that they remember on some level of their subconscious that you are really making an effort to care for them. Afterwards, using a generous handful of Vaseline, an even layer over their entire body, ensuring that their hair ends up facing the proper direction. I have found that cats generally can not stand their hair be brushed facing the wrong direction. There you have it, and the cats are now free to go outside without fear of re-infestation.
